Patron of Save the Waterberg Rhino

We are proud to have world renowned musician Mark Knopfler as our patron. Mark has a deep seated passion for wildlife and during his visits to South Africa has had the privilege of being up close and personal with rhinos in the Waterberg area. Not only has Mark made a substantial donation towards our cause, he has committed himself to the fight against poaching and to help save our rhino from extinction.

Mark Freuder Knopfler, OBE is a British guitarist, singer, songwriter, record producer and film score composer. He is best known as the lead guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter for the British rock band Dire Straits, which he co-founded in 1977.

MESSAGE FROM MARK KNOPFLER Saturday – September 08, 2012

I’ll never forget the day my father came home from work to tell us that one of his colleagues, a supposedly educated man, had said: “What do I care if the rhino becomes extinct?”.  I was a young teenager then and today this is a very real danger.  Due to man’s greed we may well lose these amazing animals forever.

Last year I was lucky enough to visit the Waterberg area in South Africa and to meet a man there who has dedicated his life to preserving rhino. If anyone out there would like to help with preserving rhino on a grass roots level, please get in touch with Save the Waterberg Rhino.

Many thanks Mark
